I manage to get approx 26mpg with both my X5 3.0 Diesel and M3 4.0 V8 outside of the city. We had a 120D before that got around 45-47 area. One of my workers has a 318d (143hp) that he managed to get to over 50mpg but that's driving like a bitch outside of the city (not highway, just country roads)
Edit: Our highway mileage differs from what you'd see in the US - limit here is 140kph and typical speed on highway here is 160-170kph or even 200+ in some places.
