although it reminds me of a similar, about that same time i was working sales and had a black customer, when he commented about a recent big jump in prices, i replied with "boy, you're right about that!" he said, "what did you just call me?" it even took me a moment to figure out he was talking about the racial undertones of the word *boy*, i was using it as an exclamation.
