Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue saved a dog that traveled through three cities trapped under the hood of a couple's PT Cruiser on Thursday afternoon.
The technical rescue team extricated the dog from between the steering mechanism and the car's front axle. The rescue happened at 1:30 p.m. in front of a home on Southeast Fifth Street in Dania Beach.
"It was literally like an Indy pit crew," Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said of the team's efforts to free the pooch. "This dog must have nine lives."
The dog traveled under the hood of the car from Hallandale Beach through Hollywood to the Dania Beach address, the spokesman said. The couple noticed the car engine was driving a bit rough and soon made the bizarre find, Jachles said.
The pup made it out of the car with "hardly a scratch," the agency said.
It's unknown whether the dog was a stray or had an owner. It was taken to a vet in Hollywood for a check-up.
