Whatever anybody thought of her politics,specially towards the end when she wasn't as with it as she once had been,she was a pioneer for women in journalism.
When I was a kid she was the only woman I really saw doing serious political reporting.
When she was still young enough that she wasn't sounding so much like the cranky old lady, I listened to her talk about the 'girls in the balcony' club which is where they stuck female reporters. The path from there to the front row of the White House press room shouldn't be underestimated or unappreciated by the women that followed her.
