Depends on where you lived.
I lived in central Fla. as a kid. Half the time you might get away with it. 49% of the time a dog would have eaten your ass up. And every once in a while you might get shot.
Back in the 1990s through 2008, I lived in S.C. Same thing. Either dog bit or shot.
Here in Vegas...I'm not sure. I live in a beautiful gated community. So you wouldn't have been able to get in.
But if you went to some poorer all-black neighborhoods or poorer all hispanic or poorer white neighborhoods and tried that...I'm pretty sure you would get killed or beaten so bad you would wish you were dead
