As I said, they get more time off than most people, but it isn't like you can go out and get a job over spring break.

You get more vacation or time off than most other people. So you do get some benefit from the teaching job that others do not have who are lucky to get 1-2 weeks off a year.

I have mixed emotions about full pensions. On one hand I feel like they should be done away with and everyone just gets a 401K style retirement. This way you can put into it what you want, your employer contributes and your retirement is what you make it.
However, I also understand the reality of that is that most of those people will end up on medicare anyway because it will be nearly impossible for them to buy health insurance when they retire so the tax payers will end up paying for them one way or the other, it is just a matter of how and when and decide to do it.
