You need to post a pic of the Fender! After it acclimates to your weather for a while, take it to a good luthier and he will set it up as good as it can be set. It's always a good investment for an extra $100. Then there is the great string conundrum. My experience with Fenders has been using 9's.. And the next player will say 10's.
