We have sponsored engineering internships for about 10 years and have offered a number of the people jobs. Currently we have two of those fellows employed fulltime.

Engineers typically like to move around. It's the way we are wired. Once you feel you've mastered a certain discipline you move to the next thing. A few of the fellows we have interned over the years have done very well working for Fortune 500 companies. I probably couldn't afford to hire them today.. Good engineers command great compensation. And they get it.
