I make probably the error to mix the french debate and the american one.
For me the problem is the institutionalization of sex and not the fact of being gay.
Also a problem in france (but i read that you have that too), is school propaganda.
In the past you had "you are white and your ancestors where supporter of slavery", now you will have sexual education against homophobia (but let's protect our children against sex...
