A vaccine is an attempt to immunize, the clinical efficacy is based on how many people developed antibodies, in some cases over 90%, however antibodies are not immunity at the cellular level which is why many vaccinated people still catch the disease they were vaccinated against. Also vaccine-induced immunity expires, sometimes after as little as 5 years. Real immunity from catching a disease lasts a lifetime.
