I think a lot of people talk bad about Wordpress just because it's such a widely used CMS. It's easy to find programmers and web designers that can configure WP to do or look like anything. Even if you can't find a plugin that is 'right' for you, you can hire a programmer to modify a similar script which would be cheaper than him starting from scratch.
To answer your question, then: yes, it is definitely a good idea for someone new to start making money with an adult site using WP.
