The Bush legacy again ... The Russians have their head up Assad's ass -- Syria is the last Russian military outpost they have in the Middle East. Quid pro quo ... Russia has a vested interest in the preservation of the current regime while most of NATO would prefer Assad gone at this point.

This is a civil war with outside intervention on all sides. Like I said, a lose-lose for all -- the worst losers are the Syrian civilians. With the addition of chemical weapons it is worse than the Lebanese ongoing civil strife ongoing for over twenty tears now.
