Fuel Cell cars run on Hydrogen. Hydrogen is found in water (the H in H2O). This requires that it be separated from water in a process called electrolysis which takes a shitload of energy to do. Once done its in a gaseous state so it has to be cooled to very low temperature and stored at very high pressure (10k lbs per square inch!) just to fit it into a tank small enough to fit an SUV like the one in the ad which again, requires a shitload of energy. This means that Fuel cell technology has a massive carbon footprint.
You have to get your car fueled at stations that carry the fuel which of course gets there by big-ass tanker trucks carrying super-compressed super-cold hydrogen which again requires alot of energy.
Most of the energy required to make Hydrogen comes from diesel, coal, or natural gas.
Fuel cells themselves are not nearly as "clean" as batteries as they contain rare (expensive) metals like rhodium and platinum.
Electric cars are the ONLY way to go. Ads that push fuel cell cars make me laugh.
