Not sure 5k is considered that large, but if i were to give an opinion on what to expect, i'd say dont expect much.
If youre thinking about regular newsletters, I surely hope they signed up for this after joining your website/s or else youre going to have some pissed off customers/ex customers. The vast majority of members do not want signed up to any type of newsletter.. IMO

I don't think most will mind... just make sure to have a working opt out at the bottom.
But weekly, I think you are right, too much. Once a month.
"Just a friendly reminder for the zishy fans... we've added blah, blah this past month and it is worth noting that getting content for so and so was quite fun... in fact... blah blah"
only send emails to expired members ;) If they are paying already and active... well, you get the point.
