Jupiter is a fickle mistress. At other times, it has bombarded the inner solar system with projectiles rather than protected it.
It's fucked up how science classes don't even teach the kids all of the planets anymore. All of the sudden, Pluto, Makemake, Ceres, Eris, and Haumea aren't even planets? And they only teach the one moon of Earth, nothing about Cruithne or any of the other bodies. They also teach Luna ("THE Moon") as a moon, and not the newer model of a binary-planet with Earth. It's all just so glossed over ... I get angry when I think about it, so I'm stopping now.
