Absolutely could not agree more. What is best is whats best for you and the host. If your an easy client that pays $100/mo, doesn't use resources nor submits support tickets on a weekly basis, I am certain you are happy with your host and your host is happy with you.
However, if you expect your host to write / fix html code for you, pay $30/mo and expect a full dedicated server with 100 Mbps, you and your host are probably not happily married.
Managed hosting is not webmaster services. Some people that like to bash hosts, most of those peeps are the ones that expect free labor of webmaster services and never even smile in return.
My recommendation, don't host all of your stuff with a single host.
Hosting since 1996, we can't please everyone, but we definitely bust our asses to do so. But we are smart enough to know, there is no single "best host."
