That huffpost article is amusing.

Quote:
Last week, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the federal government wouldn't intervene as Colorado and Washington state implement plans for a system of legalized marijuana for adults. The decision opened the floodgates for other states to pursue similar legalization efforts and outraged police groups apparently not excited to see a shift away from the failed war on drugs.
Yes, because the war on pot is a winnable one.

In a joint letter written to Holder on Friday,...
LMAO Even the stonedest stoners probably see what they did there.

law enforcement organizations warned that his move would lead to more crime, violence and even death.
::facepalm::

It's been a long time coming. I see one commenter on that page mentions something about the gov't being worried about 'lost revenues', to which I would say rii-ii-ght... because right now the gov't makes a lot of money from the war on pot. OH wait, I don't think it does. But it certainly would if they made it legal and tAxEd it.

In fact when this occurs nationwide in Canada the provincial governments could very well handle (control) it's sale like they do alcohol and make a veritable killing on it. No pun intended. Because legalizing it won't make crime go up. Why would it? Making it easier and safer for people who already use it to get it might even make crime go down.

Regulate it like alcohol. It's not legal to stand on the street drinking or in a public place. People do it but they also sometimes get fined for it. Same with pot smoking in public. Means cops get to write more tickets, which translates to even more revenue, a thing that evey level of government complains they never have enough of.

Oh, and who uses pot? In my years of living I've seen doctors, nurses, fire fighters, business owners, company execs, a few real estate agents, even one or two cops, having a go at a passsed-around joint, at the lake, while on vacation, etc. I know plenty of average, decent, hard-working, professional, family oriented people who actually keep small personal stashes. But of course when a lot of people think about weed they immediately envision a bunch of long-haired hippie stoner freaks sitting around in a basement getting high and plotting their next crime spree.

Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers --- best comic EVER.
