It really depends on what you 2 like. I personally enjoyed Koh Kut and Koh mak but its really quit over there. Great beaches though.
Never had anything stolen and I also bring my camera etc. just keep an eye on your belongings and you'll be fine.
And indeed do a few days of Bangkok too.
