How I would have handled the situation?
Even if a 12 year old was beating me i could have handled the situation without even beating the 12 year old. If you can't figure out how yourself... I fully understand why it's ok for you to taze a 12 year old. If you can't control a 12 year old physically without a weapon or even brutal force, you should not be a cop. Force should be proportionate.
