You're ignoring the fact that once the minimum wage is increased, so do the cost of the products they buy. It's called inflation.
Apparently it's a place of a bunch of R's arguing with D's, like everywhere else, unfortunately.
Watch here what happens with the miminum wage law. It's a short animated film and it's easy to understand.
