When bourbon distillers are done with the barrels they use to age the bourbon, they are reused to age other non-bourbon whiskies. Reusing the barrels makes sense, because they cost around $120 each. I heard on the radio a few weeks ago that Jack Daniels came up with a new method of extracting the bourbon embedded in the wood grain of the barrels and were selling it as a premium version.

Not sure if they have to destroy the barrels in the process...couldn't find anything about it on their website.
