You would think they would realize even if they pass something that repeals it the president will veto it and they don't have the votes to overturn the veto.

If they really think it is that bad some people would say the best way to go is to just let it happen and in a few years if it turns out to be the catastrophe they think it will they can say, "See, we told you so. Now vote us into office and we will remove it."

But that won't happen. From a political standpoint Obamacare could really hurt the republicans. First, if it works fairly well and people like it, then it makes the republicans look bad and it becomes the foundation of many democrats campaigns. Second, many of the some 30 million who are uninsured or can't get insurance are likely poor, sick, disabled etc. They will now be getting very cheap or free health insurance and many of them will be so happy about it that they will vote against anyone who will take it away.

The republicans are desperate to make sure it doesn't happen because short of it crashing and burning it likely turns out bad for them.
