Baddog, maybe it could be thought of in another way. I know you consider yourself a responsible person, and I'm sure you'd say the vast majority of others aren't as responsible. So there's far fewer good people who take care of themselves and don't expect to be taken care of than there are people who don't plan ahead.
So if this new law makes *everyone* contribute, isn't that going to affect moreso that larger percentage of the population who aren't responsible, honest people? So if that large chunk of people is contributing the lion's share to ensuring all the kids with shitty parents get proper healthcare... Maybe it's not so bad.
I mean in a sense it's another indrect tax. Most people don't even end up paying much if anything in income tax with their part time jobs etc. So from a conservative viewpoint, isn't this a way of getting those people to kick something in?
