Well, police officers are considered essential. Park rangers are not.
The difference between the two is one is important, and the other we want. We want public parks, thus, we must pay park rangers.

Companies can do whatever the fuck the want. When it comes to the government, it's our tax dollars so we have a vested interest. Parks are shut down and park rangers are being sent home, only to receive pay for work they didn't do. That's our tax dollars being wasted - we are paying money and getting nothing in return.
