Tail Gunner Ted is helping the public see what a joke the Republican party has become.
The wing-nuts in his far-right Tea Party faction have torn the Republican party apart, and just as they don't care what damage they do to the country during the current government shutdown, they don't even care if they tear their own party apart (while simultaneously the Demos, who have historically been more dysfunctional due to their broad spectrum of views, conservative to liberal, have amazingly become more organized and unified over the past decade).
If the far-right strategy continues to backfire, and further alienates the voting public and divides their own party, the Democrats could retake the House in 2014, and the last two years of Obama's administration may look more like the first two years, when Obama was able to have greater influence over shaping the agenda.
