A company called HBGary Federal developed "persona management" software a few years ago. The software can make 1 person look like a thousand different people complete with different IPs.

This software can

flood blog comments...

thumbs down yahoo comments...

mock and ridicule people on PHPBB and Vbulletin forums...

create multiple facebook/myspace/linkedIn profiles...

and cause twitter to trend...

I am not certain what HBGary is doing today but a company located in Montana called Mercury csc provides more or less the same service. And it is NOT very expensive
