Major retailers like this have every inch of the floor under surveillance and watch everyone like a casino, not to mention all the plain clothes loss prevention people pretending to be shoppers walking around. They aren't exactly in the habit of following around people who aren't doing shit, don't look suspicious and who are just innocent shoppers. Additionally, they don't just randomly accuse people of theft without significant proof to back it up... as it leads to an instant Defamation of Character legal claim.

To believe that their loss prevention teams just randomly targeted innocent people and accused them of theft for absolutely no reason whatsoever (risking immediate legal claims) other than skin color is pretty ignorant.
