I just bought a new Jeep and I'm kicking myself. I could have bought a older one, fixed it up, had fun in the process, and saved money for another project.
I like the older 1980s cars; I think I want an old Smokey And The Bandit Trans Am or a Firebird. Buy it cheap, put some paint on it, fix it up a bit.... Presto, good clean fun.
