You do not get to pick and choose when personal attacks are good or bad. Plenty of people get attacked all of the time, and I do not see you saying a peep about them. If it's wrong, it's always wrong. Not just wrong when you're attacked, and it's free will on others who you do not like, etc..
The rules should be the rules and enforced accordingly.
