I'm not so sure he knowingly lied about it. I think it was a case, like you say, of nobody really knowing what they are voting for. Hardly anyone read the text of the law before voting for it. I would imagine Obama's people told him what it will do and he then made his speeches. Is it his fault he passed on bad information? Absolutely. However, this law is so bloated and confusing I bet 10 people could read it and they would give you 10 different interpretations of it.
I don't hold out hope that it will be good. I think it will help some and hurt others and many won't be affected by it. I also think it is our first step towards something that looks more like a single payer system.
