Fuck. Obama had a chief of staff that called progressives "fucking idiots". He's governing centre-right and is basically a corporate shill like any president essentially has to be these days with the current campaign finance situation.
This last debt ceiling fight is essentially the first time Obama hasn't immediately capitulated and it's mainly because he had most of the moneyed interests and corporations on his side and the Republicans had no real plan or strategy to achieve anything. Next time they'll probably find some middle ground if the loonies on the right don't screw things up again like they did in '11 when Boehner and Obama wanted to make a deal. |
There might already be a more moderate budget deal in the works. Paul Ryan and Patty Murray have hammered out a budget that restores some spending that was hit by the sequester and cuts in other places. Reports are that it is a fair and reasonable budget where both sides get some and give some. So of course the far right hates it and so far the liberals haven't said a whole lot, but Obama said he likes it.
