I actually like Windows 8.1. Windows 7 was great as well, but I haven't found issues with 8.1 yet. Good driver support, great task manager, excellent boot time, the start screen is actually nice once you get used to it. The Windows Store apps are nice and an interesting new market for me (as a developer).
Besides, I doubt Microsoft is going to drop the new interface. It's a bit like DOS vs. Windows back in the old days. People didn't like leaving their command line interface either. But in time, everyone moves on and it's for the better imo.
