I think where the "politics" come in is that the "liberal cities" have been under Democrat rule for a long time and have pretty much been a laboratory for "big govt." spending and taxing and the results are pretty clear: If there was ever a great example of what happens when you go too far with big govt., unions, and driving business out of an area it would be: Detroit.
And look at Chicago. It's been run by the big Democrat Party machine for over a hundred years. It's an absolute mess.
Those kind of policies (in my opinion) are what lead to poverty. Especially for the inner city black youth.
But the people there are conditioned to vote "Democrat" because they think that getting a tiny bit of social welfare every month is going to lift them up somehow. And yet after decades and decades of living under Democrat rule...it only gets WORSE somehow.
In my opinion, it's created a state of dependence in them and damn near "enslaves" (I know that's a touchy word but I believe it to be true) them to the govt. and condemns them to poverty.
