I agree that there are so many things to fix that are more important than a new calendar, and I have to admit that most people wont understand the change because they don't have this "point of view" of things. I bet most people don't even know that we follow the Gregorian calendar.
We know very little about time and space. Perhaps we should have a species calendar. According to this calendar the current year is something between 300,000 - 400,000 when homo erectus evolved into homo sapiens.
By the way, the Roman calendar (753 BC) had ten months.
