Nope. This is totally correct by many reasons. Such as support of the old versions of WP (the plugin works pretty fine with WordPress 2.5 and lower), compatibility with the old freeware plugins, avoiding limitations of the new WP shortcode standards, preventing the player to be displayed outside of the post/page area, protection from interecping the shortcode by other plugins/themes and many other serious reasons. If you think that something is "totally bad", it's just your personal thought only. Please think about it.

not my personal thoughts, the correct way to do shortcodes is via the shortcode api, not by using a regular expression that is run on the_content every single time.
the free version doesnt work with html5 videos only, it uses a .swf file (player) which wont work on a non flash device.
unless the pro version is different.
