There was case in my city where a cop was in the process of going through a sex change. I can't remember which way the transition was, but he/she suddenly had troubles because neither the guys nor girls wanted to share a locker room and there was all kinds of harassment.
In the end the city settled with them and gave them a full retirement with full medical for life.
The person was in their early 30's so they will be drawing on that for a long time to come.
