I used to think the same thing... Until my kid was flunking out of school and there was nothing anyone could do to help her. I have two college degrees so I am not exactly stupid, we helped on homework every night, the teachers helped... No matter what she did very poorly at school. We even did two years of tutoring....
Suddenly this year something clicked and she's now a straight A student...
We are quick to blame the parents, but I don't believe this is always the case. Sometimes the kids just aren't motivated or in the right place.
