What you guys who are complaining so much about the abundance of reality programming on channels that used to not have it is that the amount of channels and the numbers of programs, specials and documentaries is overall greater than ever before.

So even though there are a seemingly never-ending deluge of crappy reality shows that you don't care to watch, there are still more serious history and science shows than ever before. They are just spread around to more channels as well as on Netflix, YouTube and other online sources that you can watch on your tv as well.

History, H2, Science Channel, National Geographic, Discovery, the Military Channel & PBS are some of the best plus you have a lot of foreign documentaries from the BBC and elsewhere that one can watch on YouTube. PBS.org is an incredible resource as well that has a large collection of documentaries and science shows.

Just don't expect to switch your tv on randomly and find the good stuff. Check the web sites for those channels and set your DVRs or hook your computer up to your tv and enjoy the streaming goodness of the large number of serious science and documentary shows available nowadays.
