That wouldn't be civilian communications satellites such as those used for civil air traffic, TV, GPS, etc.
The USA is about 2800 miles wide across the center. Slightly bigger... yet Dish Network requires 6 satellites to cover it, Direct TV has 5. Both those services have spots they still do not reach even with 6 birds up there.
