In most places, it is illegal to carry a gun in schools. Colorado for instance, you're not allowed to do that there. Can't carry them in movie theaters either. Clearly passing such laws has helped eliminate shootings in CO schools and theaters....Right?
Mark, lets pretend for a moment that you attend a high school basketball game. At some point in the game, some dudes bust through the door and open fire. One of them approaches your area, grabs you or your wife/friend/kid, and sticks a gun to their head....
Would you rather:
1: Offer him a swig of your Molson Ice
2: Explain to him that you don't believe in guns
3: Throw your beer at him
4: Pull out your own gun and have a fighting chance to defend yourself and your loved ones?

What about the fact that allowing guns increases chances that "YOU" is the person who busts into basketball game and points a gun at someone?
So basically you choose between:
a) decent chance that someone busts into basketball game, but you have a gun to try and protect (no guaranteed protection, just better chances).
b) absolute minimum chance that someone busts into basketball game.
Take that into consideration.
