I have studied the video. Here are the relevant elements:
0:35 Pink asks black if she has a gun
0:37 Black says it's a BB gun
0:38 Pink says go get it, BB guns don't hurt
0:40 Black walks towards house
0:44 Pink rushes black, presumably concerning the BB gun
0:48 Black tells pink to get out of the yard
0:50 Black grabs shovel, cocks it to striking position
0:51 Pink turns and runs
0:52 Black hits her in the rear of the head with the shovel
A very important distinction to be made here is that pink didn't begin to retreat until black began her striking motion.
What makes this so difficult to call is that black could have stopped the striking motion after pink began to retreat. So the question is, if the target begins to retreat after the strike is already in motion does that motion need to stop (if possible) or is the motion allowed to follow through?
