The Doors performing on Ed Sullivan was on broadcast television in primetime and the instructions came from Ed Sullivan himself.
Broadcast television is STILL behind the times with their censorship.
But as far as the society of the 1960's and 1970's among younger people...it was much more wide open and liberal than it is today in my opinion.
And yes...I did watch all the biggest bands of the day on "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" which was a syndicated show that was NOT on broadcast television.
As I said earlier, every comedian out there goes on broadcast t.v. and does a "light" version of their act. Then they perform onstage "live" without being on broadcast t.v. and it's x-rated.
Same with bands.
I saw Wendy O. Williams & The Plasmatics on the old "Tomorrow" show with Tom Snyder back in the 1980's.
Since it was broadcast t.v. she toned it down...slightly.
They did blow up a car right onstage with real explosives...lol.
But she didn't wear the see-through plastic top so you could completely see her big fake tits. Because it was broadcast television. And she didn't use the word "Fuck" every 5 seconds or show her pussy...because it was broadcast t.v.
But the next night on tour she did all of that.
It's the same for Miley Cyrus. She's putting on a show.
When she was a little girl she played and sang and performed in that manner.
Now she is a grown woman and at the top of her game.
What is she supposed to do? Come out and be something she is not?
It's okay for Mick Jagger, Alice Cooper, David Bowie, and the other teen idols of the past to ride cocks and simulate giving head...but since she is a girl she's not allowed to?
