Granted, there seems to be some sort of Canadian inferiority complex vis-a-vis the U.S.
But I like to see it as a bit of nationalistic pride, much like American chest-thumping patriotism, albeit on a mellower level. You don't see Canadian flags draped off every balcony around here.
And I think poutine would nuke any cultural/heritage pride thing - except maybe Jack Daniels, Jazz and Mark Twain. But that's just the quebecer in me :P
