These 'slaps' caused her death. He didn't intend to kill the girl but he did intend to hurt her, which he did and it caused her death and anything less than 5 years in jail is a joke.

The judge and the crown attorney are a disgrace.

I believe the "thin skull doctrine" only applies to civil cases, like when the dead person's family sues the killer for wrongful death.

But yes, this still does sound way too lenient for an intentional killing.
