You don't seem like the bullshitter type so I'm going to assume that the Fox News style propaganda and the Koch machine got you here. Sure. Maybe only 1.1% of people earn EXACTLY minimum wage. But probably close to 25% make under $10. In fact in fast food the median wage is below $10. Using that 1.1% statistic is almost dishonest then since it obviously doesn't include people making one penny more.

And those minimum wage jobs are NOT careers. They aren't meant to be a lifetime job. I'm sure that most of us here have had a minimum wage job at one point in time. And then you work your way up. Unless you are incapable OR the economy is so shitty that you can't.
But Pres. Obama "fixed" all that back in 2009 with the "Summer Of Recovery" right? lol
Seriously though...the economy has come back to life. The year is 2014 not 2009.
And again...if you raise the minimum wage you are basically spitting in the face of the 98.9% of people who EARNED their way up past minimum wage.
That's the way I see it. How about you? Did anybody ever just hand you money? Or did you have to earn your way up the ladder?

That it isn't a career (and sadly for many it does become a career of sorts) is just another excuse used to keep the wages low for them so the owners can keep more of the profit. The fact is many years ago many of these jobs were considered middle class and somewhat respectable. But the perception has been changed over time in order to justify paying them less. But the whole notion of insulting someone who works and does their job is just ridiculous and pretentious in the first place.
