As timing would have it, there is a pipeline planned that starts in Libya, goes through Chad, and into Cameroon. Probably just a coincidence, as Libya's oil is of no interest to the USA. However, that's not the only reason. The US is rapidly expanding their presence all over Africa.

A copy/paste list of where money is being spent:

"The U.S. military has been supporting construction all over Africa for its allies. A report by Hugh Denny of the Army Corps of Engineers issued earlier this year references 79 such projects in 33 countries between 2011 and 2013, including Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Cote D’Ivoire, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tunisia, The Gambia, Togo, Uganda, and Zambia. "

Some time reading up on the US in Africa will give you the bigger picture, they are taking over every place they can before China does. Asia and the Middle East is mostly divided up already, but Africa's vast resources are still up for grabs. The future is about resources, and not only oil.
