Nothing about the kid was normal, he seems like an alien. What 22 year old guy describes their dinner meal as 'exquisite' and refers to big jocks as 'brutes'?
Divorce of his parents sure didn't help though, it's incredible how many different homes and schools he moved in and out of. He was bought a lot of things but for an upper middle class kid it didn't seem that he was given any more than other kids. The trips abroad, often flying first class, the parties at rich friends of the family etc - that's where he got this elitist expectations from. I think his family was less affluent than those around him - some of the places he lived with his mother were very ordinary.

l can understand the tantrums and crying he did prior to being a teenager, my neighbour's kid does that daily, turns it on and off like a tap and she is nine. Being moved from school to school was definitely not helping his development. And his worry that he was smaller than others in height as he was getting older, into his teens, understandable, but that is all I can credit him for. It stood out when he wrote he DIDN'T fly first-class one time, how he took it for granted his family always did; that is something not many in Santa Barbara will be able to boast, surely? For him to extract outright distaste from the most minor situation then never forget it, and to set his goals to be something he could never be, he was always destined to become this fucked-up person. He was obsessed by the word 'first' – his whole story is littered with examples, and who can remember every single birthday they had from the age of three? I'm struggling to remember my last one, in February. I was expecting him to be a recluse, never having had friends, the awkward kid no one sat next to, but that has not happened. He was mostly liked or put up with, sociable, and had lots of genuine buddies... so far.
The rest of his story I am expecting to be ever so dark. I'm not enjoying being in the head of a lunatic, I'm leaving that until tomorrow.
