Exactly right. There are, and have been, help wanted signs all over the place for the past 2-3 years.

I have talked to a number of business owners around town, as well as in my travels, and many are hiring now or have been looking for some time. However, they all share a common bitch about the caliber of individuals available to pick from.

For any one job, you will get 100 applicants. Out of those 100, 90% are not even worth interviewing for any number of reasons (drugs, entitlement, unrealistic expectations, work history, etc.). Out of the couple that are left, you have to try and find a viable candidate you want to train or can handle the work, which is not easy.
