I was surprised a little too, however I requested permission in advance from the organizers - I provided links to my site event coverage area, and I even gave them links to one of my event threads on GFY to demonstrate what I do with the pix.
Basically, I agreed to and observed all of their rules. If you are polite and professional, people will often treat you that way in return. Asian Diva Girls is fairly well known as a longtime event sponsor/participant in the Bay Area sex positive community (going back over 10 years with the SF Exotic Erotic Ball, Masquerotica, etc), and I'm also friends with some Bay Area photographers and artists who exhibit at the Seattle show.
Anyway, I'm glad that I passed the audition, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to be able to shoot still photos at this wonderful event.
Otherwise, I would have been reduced to shooting on my iPhone.
I wish I could have shot video, because it was an amazing event with activities going on all over the place non-stop. Maybe next year...
Attendance over the course of the 3-day event runs into the thousands, and it literally involves hundreds of volunteers, in addition to the professional staff and temporary crew required to manage a large event of this scale. All put together as a non-profit!
I was highly impressed! I recommend that any adult industry people and companies that are also into erotic art, that are located in the Pacific Northwest check out the event and the organizations behind it, and see if there are ways that you can support them or get involved.
For anyone who has never visited there, Seattle is a really fun place to visit, with lots of things to do, and some great restaurants (especially seafood), and wild party places (on and off the map). The only reason I'm usually sleepless in Seattle is because there is so much to do, and I only have so many hours to do as much as possible! Kind of a constant theme in my too busy at times life.
