All the vets I see whining about this on Facebook were pogues anyway. None of the infantry / operators I know are even slightly upset. When asked, they basically say the same thing "timlover" said - they'd rather him go off post / awol if he doesn't want to be there than get the rest of them killed.
But you'd have to leave a desk to understand that.
